What will I learn?

Prepare for mid-level positions in the culinary industry. This diploma blends professional cook level 3 with business, financial, marketing and leadership skills. Gain work experience in the vibrant campus-based Café and Bistro settings and connect with employers through co-op opportunities.

The Culinary Business Operations Diploma involves a blend of theory, professional culinary events, online learning, field trips and applied learning in NIC’s teaching kitchen and vibrant campus-based Café and Bistro. The program is available to students who chose to pursue an apprenticeship and/or are seeking formal education in professional culinary education while gaining fundamental business competencies. Students will have the opportunity to complete the required technical training and work-based training hours to achieve their Red Seal.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants must be 18 years of age or older within the calendar year in which they are applying to study. Consideration may be given for younger students who have completed high school. To meet the English language requirement for academic programs, students must have completed: BC English 12 or BC English First Peoples 12 with a minimum grade of C; or Entrance through the NIC English Language program – obtaining a C+ in ESL 092 and ESL 095 Or one of the following: Academic IELTS overall score of 6.0 (no band lower than 5.5). Students who do not have a band score of IELTS 6.0 or higher in Reading and Writing will be required to take English 104. TOEFL ibt 80 overall with no subsection less than 19; TOEFL 550; CAEL 60 and writing 60 and PTE Academic 54 overall with no component less than 46.

For international students

Students must be 18 years of age or older within the calendar year in which they are applying to study.

C in English 12 or equivalent or

IELTS 6.0 or equivalent with no band less than 5.5 with band scores of 6.0 in Writing and Reading; or completion of NIC ENG 104.

C in Math 10 or equivalent

Current FoodSafe Level 1
