What will I learn?

This program provides up-to-date training in web and mobile design and development, digital video, 3D animation, motion graphics, and graphic design.

It teaches both design fundamentals and technical skills, and encourages creativity, imagination, professionalism, and a strong work ethic.

New media designers and developers are increasingly in demand as more and more companies are expanding their online presence through interactive media and social networking. As a graduate you will be able to design and build websites, shoot and edit digital video, create professional motion graphics, and construct complex 3D models and animation.

Employment Potential

The program provides graduates with the skills required to obtain entry-level positions in a broad spectrum of new media jobs. Graduates of this program may work in a variety of roles, including:

  • Web designers and developers
  • App and UX designers
  • Video shooters and editors
  • Motion graphic designers
  • 3D animators, texture artists, matte painters, and lighting, rigging, or modelling specialists
  • Graphic designers

It is very common that grads would find work doing a combination of the above jobs. The strength of the DMD program is it teaches a variety of skills, which is what Manitoba employers usually are looking for.

Who Should Enrol?

You should have a demonstrated artistic talent and an aptitude for graphic design. While an understanding of computer software is an asset, we're looking for artistic skills over technical skills. You must also be able to work as part of a team and handle the pressures of the competitive world of the new media design industry. Finally, excellent communication skills will help you in this program and in the industry as well. In fact, in a poll of industry employers, effective communication skills were seen as one of the most important skill sets to gain successful employment.
