What will I learn?

The Fine Arts Studio program is an intensive two-year offering with emphasis on physically creating art through drawing, painting and sculpting.

By getting your hands dirty (literally), you will learn the latest skills and techniques, find your own creative voice and be prepared to launch your career as an artist. You will spend more time in the studio in two years than other schools offer in four!

In addition to creative process this program offers one of Ontario’s most comprehensive professional practice curriculums. So you will graduate well prepared to thrive as a self-employed artists in the professional arts community.

Qualified graduates may be eligible to participate in pathway programs with partnering institutions. These pathway programs allow you to receive degree credit for learning obtained at Centennial College.

In this Fine Arts Studio program, you will:

  • Develop those advanced technical, conceptual and professional skills required to engage the contemporary arts community
  • Work independently both in and out of the studio environment
  • Receive lots of one-on-one attention
  • Begin to nurture a lifetime of growth as a professional visual artist and storyteller

  • The Fine Arts Studio is meant for students who are serious about practicing as a professional. As a candidate, you should have meaningful prior experience, either through education, a lifetime personal commitment, and/or the professional equivalent.

Program Highlights

The Fine Arts program Frequently receives awards from both the Dean and the President for student satisfaction.

A focus on traditional media, with selective integration of digital processes will give you the skills necessary to thrive as a professional in the contemporary art world.

You will learn all about the business of being an artist, including getting shows and commissions, applying for grants, marketing yourself and building your career.

In-school galleries will allow for the opportunity to exhibit your work.

You will be exposed to professional exhibition opportunities, where the sales are real. Public exposure will also be offered through rental programs.

Attention will be paid to individual creative growth in a studio environment.

Enthusiastic faculty members are all accomplished professional artists and will teach by drawing from their personal experiences.

The Story Arts Centre is close to the heart of the city and gallery communities but offers a welcoming non-institutional environment.

Entry requirements

For international students

Academic Requirements

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, or mature student status (19 years or older)
  • English Grade 12 C or U, or equivalent (minimum grade required) or take the Centennial College English Skills Assessment for Admission.

English Language Requirements:

  • A TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based) or 80+ (internet based with no test below 20)
  • IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0+ (with no single test score below 5.5)
  • CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language Assessment) with an overall band score of 60
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic) score of 51 plus
  • ITEP (International Test of English Proficiency) score of 3.7 plus.
