What will I learn?

The Centennial College Special Event Planning program offered by the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts will provide learners with the skills and knowledge to plan, design and execute diverse events from corporate meetings and tourism conferences to fundraisers and weddings. The Special Event Planner is a growing role in many organizations in a variety of industries. Special Event Planners are responsible for corporate meetings, functions, trade shows, social gatherings and celebrations. Business topics including accounting, marketing and human resources, and will be complemented with sponsorship, event design and catering courses. This two-year diploma concludes with an experiential learning opportunity working alongside professional event planners and managers in a variety of industries and on campus at Centennial’s new 20,000 sq. ft. event and conference centre.

Program Highlights

Graduates will have had hands-on experience on their field placement during their last semester. Graduates may gain employment with their field placement employer or secure employment in areas such as:

  • Pharmaceutical

Graduates may also explore starting their own business as an Event, Meeting or Wedding Planner.

For international students

Academic Requirements

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, or mature student status (19 years or older)
  • English Grade 12 C or U, or equivalent (minimum grade required) or take the Centennial College English Skills Assessment for Admission.

English Language Requirements:

  • A TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based) or 80+ (internet based with no test below 20)
  • IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0+ (with no single test score below 5.5)
  • CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language Assessment) with an overall band score of 60
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic) score of 51 plus
  • ITEP (International Test of English Proficiency) score of 3.7 plus.
