Program Requirements

The M.Sc. program in Medical Radiation Physics provides candidates with the knowledge required to enter into the field of medical physics. The program relies on a strong fundamental science background and enables candidates to undergo further training through a clinical residency program or to further advanced graduate studies in medical physics through a Ph.D. degree. Graduates from the program typically find employment in clinical settings, academia, industry, or governmental research and regulatory agencies. The program is accredited by the Commission for Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs (CAMPEP).

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants must have earned an accredited or recognized university degree (equivalent to a McGill undergraduate degree, Bachelor’s) which would serve as a basis of admission to a graduate degree program at a recognized research-intensive university in the same country. The university degree must have been completed with a minimum standing of 3.0/4.0 or the equivalent, according to grading scale on the transcript. Other English Language Requirements: 567 PBT (paper based test); MELAB (Michigan English Language Assessment Battery): a mark of 85% or higher; University of Cambridge ESOL Certificate in Advanced English (CAE): a grade of “B” (Good) or higher; University of Cambridge ESOL Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): a grade of “C” (Pass) or higher; Edexcel London Test of English – Level 4 – with an overall grade of at least “Merit Pass”; Edexcel London Test of English – Level 5 – with an overall grade of at least “Pass”; McGill Certificate of Proficiency in English or McGill Certificate of Proficiency – English for Professional Communication: Certificate of Proficiency awarded.

For international students

Candidates applying to the M.Sc. program must normally hold a B.Sc. degree (honours or major) in Physics or Engineering, with a minimum CGPA of 3.0 out of 4.0.

English Language Scores:

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): minimum acceptable scores are: The CBT is no longer being offered. CBT results will no longer be accepted as ETS no longer reports these results. N.B. an institutional version of the TOEFL is not acceptable.
IBT (Internet-Based Test): 86 overall, no less than 20 in each of the four component scores
PBT (Paper-Based Test): 567

IELTS (International English Language Testing System): a band score of 6.5 or greater (Academic module)
University of Cambridge ESOL Certificate in Advanced English (CAE): a grade of “B” (Good) or higher
