What will I learn?

Focuses on the study of financial markets, financial instruments and investment decision-making, and analyzes alternative methods in obtaining, managing and using capital. Finance incorporates basic economics, accounting and statistics in simple and complex mathematical models to simplify and study the complete economic reality of financing business and investments. Our recently-launched flagship trading room (Centre for Financial Market Research and Teaching) allows students to experience the micro-structure of financial markets and risk management through trading and investment activities, using real-time financial data and current market information.

A degree or major in finance is required to be considered for the Finance major.

Career Opportunities:

An excellent bridge to PhD studies, or to pursue careers where research skills and scholarly knowledge are valued. i.e. consultant or analyst.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants normally must meet the following requirements: Hold an undergraduate degree in a related discipline; Have a minimum grade point average of 3.00 (based on the uLethbridge 4.00 scale) on the last 20 graded university-level term courses. English Language Requirements: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), taken within the last two years, with minimum scores of: 580 on the paper-based TOEFL and 5.0 on the Test of Written English (TWE); or 86 on the internet-based TOEFL (iBT); Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test, taken within the last two years, with a minimum overall score of 6.5, and a minimum of 5.5 in each band; Academic Pearson Test of English (PTE), taken within the last two years, with a minimum overall score of 63; Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Assessment, taken within the last two years, with a minimum overall score of 70.

For international students

Applicants must hold a baccalaureate degree (i.e. an undergraduate degree) in a related discipline from a recognized degree-granting institution; Have a minimum grade point average of 3.00 (based on 4.00 scale) on the last 20 graded university-level term courses OR calculated on the most recently completed master’s degree if the applicant is applying for another master’s degree.

English Language Requirements:

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) taken within the last two years, with a minimum overall score of 86.
Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test, taken within the last two years, with a minimum overall score of 6.5, and a minimum score of 6.0 in each band.
Academic Pearson Test of English (PTE), taken within the last two years, with a minimum overall score of 63.
Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Assessment, taken within the last two years, with a minimum overall score of 70.
