What will I learn?

The mathematics division offers programs leading to MSc and PhD degrees in the following areas: algebra, approximation theory, category theory, convex geometry, differential equations, functional analysis, graph theory, number theory, numerical analysis, operator theory, optimization, general relativity theory, stochastic modeling, and topology.

Computing Facilities:

The department operates a network of Sun workstations, PCs, and Xterminals. Standard mathematical software such as NAG, Maple, Matlab, Mathematica, S and SAS is available, as well as special-purpose applications software in a variety of areas.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or related field, from a recognized college or university. Minimum entrance GPA of 3.0/4.3 (equivalent to a B at Dalhousie University). English language requirement: Internet-based TOEFL (Academic iBT): 92; MELAB: 85; IELTS: 7; CAEL: 70 with no band score lower than 60; Dalhousie College of Continuing Education (CCE): A-; Pearson English Test PTE Academic: overall score of 65 and nothing below 54

For international students

Applicants must have,

  • Four-year Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 (B average) in the last 60 credit hours of study
  • Degree granted by university of recognized standing

English language requirement:

  • Internet-based TOEFL (Academic iBT): 92
  • MELAB: 85
  • IELTS: 7
  • CAEL: 70 with no band score lower than 60
  • Dalhousie College of Continuing Education (CCE): A-
