What will I learn?

In health services office administration, you’ll be at the centre of a highly specialized environment that requires a unique combination of attention to detail, compassion and managerial skills. The Office Administration - Health Services program will teach you about medical terminology and transcription, billing and patient management, office producers, ethics and research. You'll also master current software and computer skills that are key components of today's busy medical office.

Your Learning Experience: In addition to the skills you’ll gain from in-class learning throughout the Office Administration - Health Services program, you'll also gain valuable work experience during a four-week work placement in a medical office environment, or through a comprehensive project-based experience; Upon graduation, you’ll be ready to start an exciting career in any medical environment with jobs including:; You might work in a hospital, a medical lab, residential care facility or a community clinic, and you’ll be able to use the accounting, billing and general office skills you’ve earned to work with doctors, surgeons, dentists, chiropractors or other health care practitioners; This professional, two-year Ontario College Diploma program is designed to provide students with extensive practical understanding and knowledge to perform administrative support in a wide variety of medical environments; Expert training in computerized medical records systems, billing systems and other office equipment technology applications will be combined with analytical and multitasking strategies to facilitate scheduling, decision making, coordination and task completion. Utilizing these skills, students will be capable of overseeing a variety of medical office environments. Researching, developing, and presenting accurate medical documentation, correspondence and reports will be emphasized. The importance of professional ethics, privacy and confidentiality will be highlighted throughout the program. A part-time offering is available for this program.

Entry requirements

For international students

OSSD with courses from the College (C), University (U), University/College (M), or Open (O) stream WITH: Any Grade 12 English (C) or (U) OR Academic and Career Entrance Certificate (ACE) OR Ontario High School Equivalency Certificate (GED) OR Mature Applicant with standing in the required course stated above.

Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to demonstrate proficiency in English by one of the following methods:

A Grade 12 College Stream or University Stream English credit from an Ontario Secondary School, or equivalent, depending on the program's Admission Requirements

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test with a minimum score of 550 for the paper-based test (PBT), or 79 for the Internet-based test (iBT), with test results within the last two years

International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test with an overall score of 6.0 with no score less than 5.5 in any of the four bands, with test results within the last two years

Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) test with an overall score of 60 with no score less than 50 in any of the four bands, with test results within the last two years

Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE) with a minimum score of 53, with test results within the last two years

A Cambridge English Test (FCE/CAE/CPE) with an overall score on the Cambridge English Scale of 169 with no language skill less than 162, with test results within the last two years
