Our graduate program provides an advanced education with the goal of preparing students for a career in research or other STEM disciplines. We offer MSc and PhD programs, and many of our MSc students successfully transfer to PhD. Our department is both unique and diverse, with expertise in nutrition, human metabolism, the molecular structure and function of proteins and membranes, and food science, as well as a background in physiology and the molecular etiology of normal and disease conditions ranging from obesity, cardiovascular diseases, neurology, and cancer to gastrointestinal tract biology and immune cell function. As part of the Faculty of Science, students will be given the opportunity to collaborate with academics from a wide range of backgrounds. Memorial University also boasts a new state-of-the-art Animal Research Center, modernizing medical research in the province. After graduation, students either continue on the academic track, move on to industry or government jobs, or pursue a career in medicine.
