What will I learn?

Pharmacists select, compound, preserve, and dispense the drugs prescribed by physicians, dentists, and other practitioners. Patient counselling is also a major component of the pharmacist's work. The University of Winnipeg is an excellent place to fulfill the entrance requirements for pharmacy at the University of Manitoba or other universities across Canada.


Years 1-2:

PRE-Pharmacy at The University of Winnipeg • Each faculty of pharmacy has its own entrance requirements. To meet the entrance requirements for Pharmacy at the University of Manitoba, you will need to complete 48 credit hours, including the “Pre-Professional Requirements” listed below. • Make sure you complete one regular session (September – April) that contains a minimum of 24 new credits of university level degree-credit courses to show you can withstand the rigours and discipline needed for this program. • Students must also attain a minimum Adjusted GPA of 3.0 to be considered for admission.

Years 3-6:

Professional Studies: Pharmacy • During your pre-professional studies at The University of Winnipeg, you will apply for admission to pharmacy at another university. Enrolment in pharmacy programs is limited, and only highly qualified applicants are chosen. Admission into pharmacy is based on an outstanding academic record; and the Computer-based Assessment for Sampling Personal characteristics (CASPer). • At least four more years are required to complete a pharmacy program

Entry requirements

For students from United States

You are a current high school student studying at a school in another Canadian province, and expect to graduate from grade 12 (or equivalent). you must also have the following high school courses: Chemistry 40S; Pre-Calculus Mathematics 40S or Applied Mathematics 40S (70% minimum)

For international students

You are a current high school student studying at a school in another Canadian province, and expect to graduate from grade 12 (or equivalent).

In addition, you must have Chemistry 40S and either Pre-Calculus Mathematics 40S or Applied Mathematics 40S in order to take some of the required courses for admission to pharmacy. Biology 40S is recommended

Test of English as a Foreign Language: Requirement/Score: Internet-based - Achieve a minimum score of 86 with no less than 20 in each component.

International English Language Testing System: Requirement/Score: IELTS Academic - Minimum overall band score of 6.5

Cambridge Assessment English: C1 Advanced: Requirement/Score: Minimum score 180

Cambridge Assessment English: C2 Proficiency: Requirement/Score: Minimum score 180

CanTest: Requirement/Score: An average score of 4.5 in Listening and Reading; and a score of 4.0 in Writing*
*A score of 3.5 in Writing may be considered, depending on the program of study, and provided the student is registered in Academic Writing Extended (ESL).

CAEL and CAEL-CE - Minimum score of 60; CAEL online - Minimum score of 70

Pearson Test of English (Academic): Requirement/Score: Minimum of score of 58
