    Aerospace and aviation at RMIT University is internationally renowned for its industry-relevant high-impact research and globally competitive graduates. The Bachelor of Applied Science (Aviation) degree programme is offered to students with a relevant Higher Diploma (HD) from Vocational Training Council and / or other equivalent qualifications.

  • Programme Aims

    This specialised aviation programme aims to:

  • provide students with an awareness and understanding of the aviation industry;
  • enable students to critically review and analyse the different aspects of the aviation industry;
  • provide students with a broad, coherent and detailed knowledge / theory related to the global aviation industry;
  • prepare students to work individually and in teams to solve real-life aviation industry problems; and
  • produce graduates that can effectively communicate with diverse aviation industry stakeholders.
  • Career Prospects

    The programme will prepare graduates for employment in a range of operational management and planning roles. These include roles in areas such as:

  • airline operations planning and management;
  • airline maintenance management and supervision;
  • airport landside / airside operations;
  • airport planning and management;
  • aviation safety management;
  • airline strategies, finance, and traffic data; and
  • concepts and applications of human factors in aviation.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants must have completed a VTC Higher Diploma graduates in a relevant discipline; or Holders of other equivalent qualifications are welcome to apply and will be asked to submit a portfolio and attend an interview.English Proficiency Requirements: An overall band score of at least 6.0 in IELTS with no less than 5.5 in any band or equivalent.

For international students

Applicants will be eligible for entry into the Bachelor of Applied Science (Aviation) programme, and also be eligible for credit recognition, if they have completed a relevant VTC HD with an average grade of C+ or better. Qualifications recognized include:

  • HD in Aviation
  • HD in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering
  • HD in Airfreight Management and Global Logistics
  • HD in Airport Operations Management
  • HD in Business Administration
  • HD in Customer Services for Aviation and Passenger Transport

Students who have not completed one of the above qualifications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

English Proficiency Requirements

IELTS 6.5 with no band lower than 6.0; or TOEFL score of 580+ (TWE 4.5+); or RMIT English Worldwide (REW) Advanced Plus or equivalent; or

Successful completion of at least the equivalent of a two year tertiary programme of at least Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Level 5 within the past five years where English is the language of teaching and assessment.

(VTC graduates who have completed a Higher Diploma within the past five years conducted and assessed in the English medium are deemed to have met the requirements.)
