What will I learn?

RMIT’s Bachelor of Applied Science (Construction Management) (Honours) programme will equip students with the skills they need to plan, coordinate and control a built project, from inception through to completion. Students will explore the construction of residential and commercial properties, developments in urban cities and the renovation of elements of the built environment.

Programme Aims

This programme aims to:

  • apply knowledge of complex construction management theory to students' professional practice and / or further study;
  • apply critical and creative thinking, theoretical knowledge and technical skills in formulating solutions to industry problems;
  • utilise appropriate methods and techniques to design and / or execute research-based or professionally focused construction management projects, demonstrating capacity for independent and collaborative learning, addressing real-world industry issues;
  • collaborate effectively with others and demonstrate intellectual independence and autonomy to solve problems and / or address industry issues and imperatives; and
  • critically examine and reflect on the profession, in local and global contexts, and question accepted interpretations and decision making.

Career Prospects

This programme will enable students to work as a construction management specialist in a range of roles including as a chartered builder or chartered quantity surveyor. Graduates will develop their ability to become professional builders, quantity surveyors or construction managers working in the firms of contractors, consultants and developers.

Students may also work on the construction of high-rise buildings and apartments; factories; hotels; complex sporting arenas; houses; hospitals; or the refurbishment and renovation of buildings.

Programme Structure

The programme at SHAPE is equivalent to the 3rd and 4th years of the RMIT Bachelor of Applied Science (Construction Management) (Honours) degree
with an entry point to the programme appropriate for Higher Diploma and Associate Degree graduates from relevant fields.

English Proficiency Requirement

IELTS 6.5 with no band lower than 6.0; or TOEFL score of 580+ (TWE 4.5+); or RMIT English Worldwide (REW) Advanced Plus or equivalent; or

Successful completion of at least the equivalent of a two year tertiary programme of at least AQF Level 5 within the past five years where English is the language of teaching and assessment.

(VTC graduates who have completed a Higher Diploma within the past five years conducted and assessed in the English medium are benchmarked to have met this requirement.)
