What will I learn?

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Scheme in Aviation Engineering (AE Scheme) includes the following two awards:

  • BEng (Hons) in Aviation Engineering (Indicative planned number of seats for Year 2: 25)
  • BEng (Hons) in Air Transport Engineering (Indicative planned number of seats for Year 2: 25)

Students are allowed to enrol in any award programme without being subject to further assessment.

Deferred choice between BEng (Hons) in Aviation Engineering and BEng (Hons) in Air Transport Engineering for AE Scheme students

Students can pursue their preferred programmes, normally from Year 3 onwards, until graduation. This arrangement enables students to choose their study path once they have obtained a solid understanding of the programmes during the first two years.

BEng (Hons) in Aviation Engineering

This programme aims to equip highly skilled graduates with:

  • In-depth understanding of the aviation and aeronautical engineering systems and up-to-date technologies, as well as specialized knowledge in a chosen stream of study.
  • Competence to handle different engineering problems academically and practically in the aviation and aeronautical industry.
  • Sufficient knowledge to manage and solve problems through effective and efficient project management and planning.
  • Effective communication skills with different stakeholders using state-of-the-art technologies and aviation and aeronautical languages both in English and Chinese.

BEng (Hons) in Air Transport Engineering

This programme aims to equip highly skilled graduates with:

  • In-depth understanding of the air transport operations, resource planning, human-centred design of aviation systems and airworthiness and up-to-date technologies, as well as specialized knowledge in a chosen stream of study.
  • Competence to handle different engineering problems practically and academically in the aviation industry.
  • Sufficient knowledge and skills to manage different projects related to the aviation sector effectively and efficiently.
  • Effective communication skills with different stakeholders using state-of-the-art technologies and aviation languages both in English and Chinese.

Entry requirements

For international students

GCE A-level / International A-level: Grade B or above in 3 GCE A-Level / International A-Level subjects

International Baccalaureate (IB): IB Diploma with a total of 32 points or above out of 45

Applicants with good results in GCE A-level / International A-level or International Baccalaureate (IB) can be granted up to 25% credit transfer upon admission to the 4-year degree curriculum.

English Language Requirements

  • TOEFL: A score of 80 or above in the Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-based test (TOEFL iBT), in one sitting
  • IELTS: An overall band score of 6.0 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic Module
  • GCE / International AS or A-Level: Grade E or above in English/ English Language/ English Literature
  • GCE O-Level/ GCSE/ IGCSE: Grade C / Grade 4 or above in English / English Language / English Literature
  • Cambridge English Language Assessment: Grade C /Level C1 / 180 or above in Certificate in Advanced English (CAE)
  • SAT: A score of 590 or above in Evidence-based Reading and Writing
  • ACT: A score of 23 or above in both English and Reading (in one sitting)
  • Advanced Placement (AP): A score of 4 or above in English Language and Composition; or A score of 4 or above in English Literature and Composition
