What will I learn?

Offered by the School of Chinese Medicine, Master of Chinese Medicine is targeted on applicants who have completed a non-Chinese Medicine majored Bachelor's Degree and are interested in pursuing advanced study in theories and clinical practice in Chinese Medicine. This is the unique Master programme in Hong Kong which enables graduates to sit for the Chinese Medicine Practitioner Licensing Examination organized by the Chinese Medicine Council of Hong Kong upon completion of the Programme.

Coursework Requirements

The Master of Chinese Medicine is a four-year full-time programme, which consists of the Pre-clinical Programme (3 years) and the Clinical Programme (1 years). Coursework requirements are as follows.

Students are required to complete courses on Chinese medical concepts, specialties in Chinese medicine and basic medical and life sciences in the Pre-clinical Programme (3 years). Students will then receive advanced clinical training by attaching to a Chinese medicine hospital in the Mainland and/ or a specialty clinic in Hong Kong (1 year).

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants must have a graduated from a recognized university and obtained a Bachelor's degree, normally with honours not lower than Second Class; or graduated from an honours programme of a recognized university with a Bachelor's degree, normally achieving an average grade of not lower than "B"; or completed a course of study in a tertiary educational institution and obtained professional or similar qualifications equivalent to an honours degree. English Language Requirements: TOEFL: 550 (Paper-based)/79 (Internet-based); IELTS (Academic): 6.5; GMAT (Verbal): Band 21.

For international students

In addition to the general requirements of the Graduate School, applicants should preferably:

  • have majored in Biomedical Sciences or a related field; or
  • have completed Chinese medicine courses in a recognized educational institution.
  • A written test and interview may be required by the School of Chinese Medicine.

To fulfill the University’s minimum English language requirements for admission to postgraduate programmes, applicants should have:

obtained a degree from a university in Hong Kong or taken a degree programme of which the medium of instruction was English; or

achieved scores in the following English Language tests2 as indicated:

  • TOEFL: 550 (Paper-based)/79 (Internet-based);
  • IELTS (Academic): 6.5;
  • GMAT (Verbal): Band 21; or

obtained a pass grade in other English language requirements equivalent to HKDSE or

obtained a recognized professional qualification, provided that the examination was conducted in English.
