Why is this course for me?

If you are interested in studying Mathematics together with an Arts and Humanities or Social Sciences subject, then this degree is for you.

Mathematics has long played a central role in our quest to fully describe and understand the natural world. Nowadays, it is also a vital tool in many of the social sciences. Those who concentrate on this subject will gain an understanding of mathematical concepts and learn how to prove key facts and solve problems using deductive reasoning.

Career & Graduate Study Opportunities

The skills and problem-solving abilities you acquire are highly prized in a range of professions. Mathematics graduates have found highly rewarding employment in: Actuarial science, Political science, Journalism, Business, Sociology, Banking and financial services, IT, Education, Meteorology, Accounting.

Graduates may also pursue further study, including the HDip in Mathematical Science (qualifier for the MSc in Mathematical Science) and the HDip and MA in Statistics.

What Will I Study

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Students must have CGPA 3.0 out of 4.0 unweight scales in combination with ACT minimum 22 or SAT minimum 1090, Either ACT or SAT is accepted; UCD Super scores ACT and SAT scores; C Average in US High School English Courses. Students must have Cambridge A Level: At least three subjects at A Level Grade C and three other subjects at GCSE Level Grade C. UCD requires Baccalauréat de l'Enseignement Secondaire + 1 year at a recognised university (Diplôme de … (plus professional field); Diplôme d'Etudes Supérieures; Diplôme d'Ingénieur/d'Architecte d'Etat or Licence). English language requirements: IELTS - An average score of 6.5 over all components and a minimum of 6.0 in each band on the Academic Version; A minimum score of 600 in the paper-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL PBT), with Test of Written English at 475 +, a minimum score of 90 is required in the Internet based TOEFL (IBT); Pearson English Language Text: Minimum of 63 and at least 59 for each item in the Communicative Skills section.

For international students

There are minimum entry requirements that all applicants, applying based on school leaving results, must meet.

IELTS - An average score of 6.5 over all components and a minimum of 6.0 in each band on the Academic Version;

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): A minimum score of 90 is required in the Internet based TOEFL (iBT) with no less than 21 in writing and at least 19 in every other section;

English language examinations administered by the University of Cambridge: 176+ on Cambridge English scale (with no less than 169 in each skill and use of English), Acceptable Examinations:

Proficiency Certificate, Grade C (i.e. CEFR Level C1 or C2).

Advanced Certificate, Grade C (i.e. CEFR Level C1 or C2)

First Certificate, Grade A (i.e. CEFR Level C1)

Pearson English Language Text: Minimum of 63 and at least 59 for each item in the Communicative Skills section.

Duolingo English Test (DET) - The minimum requirement will be a DET score of 110 is required with at least 100 in each sub score. This test of English will be reviewed during 2021 and a decision taken as to whether it should continue to be acceptable.
