What is the Course about?

The field of sports management and coaching is changing rapidly. Professional sporting bodies require their management and coaching staff to not only have an excellent understanding of their chosen sport, but to equally have strong business skills.

On completion of the course, students will have a detailed understanding of:

  • Player development
  • Coach education
  • Strength and conditioning
  • Programme planning
  • Performance analysis
  • Sport finance
  • Sport media and marketing.

  • Exit award - Bachelor of Arts Sports Coaching and Business Management (GAA, Soccer, Rugby) after Year 3.

What follow-on study opportunities are available?

Graduates of this course may be eligible to progress to Masters level in the areas of Performance Analysis, Strength and Conditioning and Business or the MSc in Strength and Conditioning.

What will I be able to do when I finish the course?

Graduates will be qualified to work in a variety of sports-related careers including sports development officers, sports management, club development, club administration, sport coaching and fitness instruction.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Students must demonstrate that they have reached a level of education in their country of origin that is the equivalent of a Secondary School Diploma (High School Diploma) with good grades in an appropriate language, mathematics and at least 4 other subjects.  Students must also have an IELTS of 5.5 or equivalent.

For international students

All students must have a Leaving Certificate: 2H5 & 4O6/H7

Subjects required:

English or Irish O6/H7

Mathematics O6/H7

The required evidence may take the form of either:

1. An approved English language qualification or test result. The qualification or test result shall have been awarded no more than two years prior to the proposed date of enrolment, and / or 2. Substantial education (minimum one academic year) or work experience (minimum eighteen months) conducted through English and undertaken no more than two years prior to the proposed date of enrolment

English language requirements: TOEFL paper based 550; TOEFL computer based 213; TOEFL internet based (iBT) 79; IELTS 5.5; GCE O level English language – grade C; Test of Interactive English (TIE) – B2+; TOEIC – 700; GCSE English – Grade C; Cambridge certificate in advanced English – Grade C; English test for academic and professional purposes (ETAPP) – B2+; Irish leaving certificate – ordinary level grade D.
