What is the Course about?

Sports bodies require their management and coaching staff to have a well-rounded understanding and knowledge about their chosen sport but also of business and management. A Sports Coaching and Business Management degree explores the cross-functional nature of business and sport and equips students with the necessary skills to attain careers in: sport management, club development, games development and club administration.

Applicants can apply for both the BA (Honours) Sport Management and Coaching (CW858 - NFQ Level 8) and the BA Sports Coaching and Business Management (CW827 - NFQ Level 7) on the CAO application. Both courses run concurrently for the first three years.

What follow-on study opportunities are available?

Graduates of this course may be eligible to progress to Year 4 of the BA (Honours) Sport Management and Coaching (CW858).

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Students must demonstrate that they have reached a level of education in their country of origin that is the equivalent of a Secondary School Diploma (High School Diploma) with good grades in an appropriate language, mathematics and at least 4 other subjects.  Students must also have an IELTS of 5.5 or equivalent.

For international students

All students must have a Leaving Certificate: 2H5 & 4O6/H7

Subjects required:

English or Irish O6/H7

Mathematics O6/H7

The required evidence may take the form of either:

1. An approved English language qualification or test result. The qualification or test result shall have been awarded no more than two years prior to the proposed date of enrolment, and / or 2. Substantial education (minimum one academic year) or work experience (minimum eighteen months) conducted through English and undertaken no more than two years prior to the proposed date of enrolment

English language requirements: TOEFL paper based 550; TOEFL computer based 213; TOEFL internet based (iBT) 79; IELTS 5.5; GCE O level English language – grade C; Test of Interactive English (TIE) – B2+; TOEIC – 700; GCSE English – Grade C; Cambridge certificate in advanced English – Grade C; English test for academic and professional purposes (ETAPP) – B2+; Irish leaving certificate – ordinary level grade D.
