What will I learn?

These Programs, made possible through the collaboration of our five Departments – Applied Science for Electronics and Materials, Molecular and Material Sciences, Advanced Energy Engineering Science, Energy and Environmental Engineering, and Earth System Science and Technology – are specially designed for international students who wish to acquire an in-depth knowledge of symbiotic technology, and provides them with the know-how to further their ability to explore and resolve the world’s pressing energy and environmental problems. Students in the Programs are able to take advantage of the close guidance of a team of supervisors, along with state-of-the-art research facilities. Students also benefit from the opportunities we provide for direct communication and substantial collaborations with other research entities, both domestic and overseas, and a network of researchers, students, alumni and professors in Japan and abroad.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Student have completed schooling equivalent to 16 years of education (elementary 6 years, middle school 3 years, high school 3 years, college 4 years) overseas (outside of Japan).

For international students

Applicant must meet one of the following criteria, however those who has Japanese nationality or who is a permanent resident of Japan are not eligible to apply.

(1) Those who have completed 16 years of formal education in countries other than Japan or who expect to complete 16 years of formal education by September

(2) Those who have received or are expected to receive a degree equivalent to a bachelor’s degree by September by completing the minimum duration of studies be at least three years at the university or institution in foreign countries. (limited to those which have been evaluated the progress of education and research by the organizations certified by the government of said country or the relevant organizations or those which have been designated separately by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.)

(3) Those who have graduated or are expected to graduate by September from a university (limited to the program conducted only in English) prescribed in Article 83 of the School Education Act.

(4) Those who have completed 15 years of formal education in countries other than Japan, and are judged to have received all the necessary credits with an excellent record.

(5) Those who are judged to have an academic ability equal to or surpassing that of students who have graduated from a university, by individual screening according to the requirements for admission, and who will be 22 years old before or on September.
