What will I learn?

Accounting and finance professionals are in high demand. The Bachelor of Business (Accounting and Finance) introduces students to the concepts of accounting, management, statistics, microeconomics and business law. Students develop core skills in analysing investments, sourcing foreign exchange deals, analysing and communicating the financial position of an organisation, risk management and business investment. The course helps them become well equipped to enter the global, challenging and evolving industries of accounting, banking, finance and consultation.

Aims and objectives

The Bachelor of Business (Accounting and Finance) course allows students to develop skills that are fundamental to evaluating, analysing and communicating the financial position of an organization or individual.

The accounting and finance major is designed to prepare individuals in the core areas of analysis of investments and sourcing foreign exchange deals, risk management and business investment, with units designed with a blend of economics, accounting and finance. The major is also designed to prepare individuals in the core areas of financial accounting, management accounting, finance, tax and auditing, in addition to economics and company law.

Upon successfully completing the Bachelor of Business (Accounting and Finance) students will be able to:

  • Define and integrate theoretical principles applicable to advertising and apply those principles in a range of practices
  • Systematically review and critically evaluate research from a variety of sources in order to make informed judgments on options for innovatively solving a range of problems that arise in business contexts
  • Formulate creative solutions that are fit for purpose and demonstrate cognizance of the impact of business decisions on the triple bottom line
  • Coherently articulate a line of reasoning demonstrating cultural sensitivity and apply a framework to analyze and offer solutions to ethical dilemmas
  • Communicate a range of business arguments by evaluating and implementing alternative communication strategies as appropriate to the audience
  • Build on and continuously develop the intellectual independence to be critical and reflective learners, cognizant of new technologies
  • Work collaboratively in diverse groups.

Career opportunities

Graduates may find employment with large or small companies including private practices, government-owned entities and banks. Possible roles include graduate accountant, account manager, auditor, fund accounting officer, taxation agent, merchant banker, corporate treasurer, investment banker and financial adviser.

Professional recognition

The Bachelor of Business (Accounting and Finance) is professionally accredited through CPA Australia. Graduates are therefore eligible to apply for membership of CPA Australia (CPA), Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ), the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA).

Students can also choose to apply for a transfer to our Melbourne campus after a minimum of one year of study, subject to meeting the appropriate criteria

English Language Requirements: IELTS - 6.0 (no individual band below 6.0); TOEFL (Paper based) score of 537, Internet based score of 75; PTE Academic 50 with no communicative skill score less than 50; Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) - overall CAE score 52.
