What will I learn?


The Master of Philosophy programmes offered by the Faculty is in the field of architecture, quantity surveying, urban and regional planning, and transportation planning. The programmes are entirely conducted in research mode whereby students conduct original research under the supervision of experienced supervisors.

Programme Educational Objectives

Demonstrate an understanding of the theories, principles, scope and roles of the built environment (urban and regional planning, quantity surveying, architecture and transport planning) in the process of growth and development.

Apply a range of analytical skills and techniques designed to address a range of complex problems.

Apply the knowledge, skills and understanding for the achievement of feasible solutions to the built environment problems.

Work in multi-disciplinary team and contribute to the society.

Comply with ethics, professional and community standards, and involve in life-long learning.

Demonstrate mastery in principles and practices in the field of the built environment at local, strategic, national and international levels.

Demonstrate skills in applying methods and techniques across a variety of context and practice in the field of the built environment.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants must have a bachelor degree with good honours from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia or any other institution of higher learning recognised by the Senate; or other qualifications equivalent to a bachelor degree and experience in the related field recognized by the senate. English Language Requirements: IELTS ? Band 6.0; TOEFL ? 550; TOEFL (IBT) ? 79ELS CIEP LEVEL 108 & 109.

For international students

A Bachelor’s Degree with good honors from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia or any other institution of higher learning recognized by the Senate; or

A qualification equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree and experience in the relevant field recognized by the Senate.

Applicant must fulfill one of the options below:

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): The minimum scores of 550 or TOEFL IBT 79

International English Language Testing System (IELTS): The minimum scores of 6.0

ELS Certified Intensive English Programme (CIEP): Completion of ELS Certified Intensive English Programme (CIEP) Level 107 or higher

Common European Framework of Reference for Language (CEFR): The minimum scale of B2
