What will I learn?

The MPH graduate should have the following public health skills:

1.Technically competent in the board field of Public Health

2.Equipped with adequate specialised knowledge and skills in a particular discipline of Public Health

3.Able to exhibit proper leadership and managerial expertise

4.Able to function effectively and efficiently

5.Able to perform the duties at local, district, state and national levels

6.An advocate of Public Health; and

7.Able to carry out research or studies and produce epidemiology reports.

Course Structure

The Master of Public Health programme comprises forty two (42) credit hours namely:

Seven (7) core courses each of three (3) credit hours, totalling twenty-one (21) credit hours;

One (1) core course that leads to one (1) Research Project of nine (9) credit hours;

Six (6) elective courses each of two (2) credit hours, totalling twelve (12) credit hours

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Preference will be given to applicants having a Bachelor’s Degree with CGPA 3.0 and above or its equivalent. A band 5.5 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (Academic); or A score of 550 paper based total, a score of 213 for computer-based total or a score of 80 for internet-based total for Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

For international students

Students must have Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery of the University or an equivalent medical qualification approved by the Senate; and at least one year of post-registration general medical experience approved by the Senate; or the degree of Bachelor of Dental Surgery of the University; the degrees of Bachelor of Allied Health from University; a Bachelor's degree of the University with at least a second class honours in a relevant discipline; or an equivalent qualification approved by the Senate; and at least one year of relevant work experience in clinical or health.

To obtain a score of 600 for a paper-based total (PBT); a score of 250 for a computer-based total (CBT) or a score of 100 for an internet-based total (IBT) for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL); or

To obtain a band of 6 for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
