What will I learn?

Master of Science (Sustainable Urban Design) is the only industrial-focused master-by-coursework program in the discipline in Malaysia. The program is designed to be multi-disciplinary in nature where it assimilates the diverse areas of sustainable development and urban design. An overseas study trip becomes a compulsory component to expose students to the global concern of sustainable development. This trip will give an international flavor to the program where students can also engage with their international counterparts with the cooperation of other international university partners.

Apart from having in-house experts in urban design, the teaching staffs also include in house experts from related disciplines, experts and professionals in the industry who will bring the real world issues relating to sustainable urban design into the class rooms. The multi-disciplinary nature of the program is designed to attract as many prospective students from various related disciplines.

Program Objectives

The program objectives are to produce graduates who are able to:

Master and apply knowledge of urban design to address the planning and design problems of development within the urban areas.

Evaluate the needs of the users as well as appreciate ether sustainable urban design issues from the global and cultural perspective in fulfilling their responsibilities, professionally, ethically, environmentally a socially. Within the scope of professional practice and integrity

Lead research works with the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, in delivering the social and technical issues as well as establishing international networking’s.

Upgrade new knowledge in urban design through lifelong learning.

Program Outcomes

Integrate in-depth urban design knowledge in professional practices for the benefits of built environment discipline.

Demonstrate practical skills by critically analyses data, formulate design concept, design and make proposals to solve and evaluate urban design problem from sustainable development perspectives.

Act responsibly in different situations and demonstrate social skills in role playing whether as a leader or group member as well communicate effectively through oral and written to scientific, industry and public communities.

Demonstrates professional ethics in urban design from sustainable perspectives.

Select contemporary knowledge in sustainable urban design independently and use information (P4) effectively.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants must have a bachelor degree with good honours from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia or any other institution of higher learning recognised by the Senate; or other qualifications equivalent to a bachelor degree and experience in the related field recognized by the senate. English Language Requirements: IELTS ? Band 6.0; TOEFL ? 550; TOEFL (IBT) ? 79ELS CIEP LEVEL 108 & 109.

For international students

A Bachelor’s Degree with good honors from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia or any other institution of higher learning recognized by the Senate; or

A qualification equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree and experience in the relevant field recognized by the Senate.

Applicant must fulfill one of the options below:

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): The minimum scores of 550 or TOEFL IBT 79

International English Language Testing System (IELTS): The minimum scores of 6.0

ELS Certified Intensive English Programme (CIEP): Completion of ELS Certified Intensive English Programme (CIEP) Level 107 or higher

Common European Framework of Reference for Language (CEFR): The minimum scale of B2
