What will I learn?

The Master of Science program is a graduate program by research. Candidates are required to register for several courses and conduct an independent research project.

This field is important because wildlife management is the main component in the conservation and sustainable management of forest biodiversity. Forest ecosystem management will be affected if the habitat requirements and interdependency of wildlife are not taken into consideration in the forest management plan. These include changes in the microclimate and microhabitat. Related Sub-fields are: In-situ and ex-situ Wildlife Management Techniques, Relationships of Wildlife and Habitats, Breeding and Survivorship, Behaviors, Diseases, Diversity, Population Dynamics, Ecological Interactions, Human-Wildlife Conflicts, Wildlife Sampling Techniques.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

The applicant should possess a Bachelor’s degree (with honours) in a relevant field with a minimum CGPA of 3.000, or the applicant without sufficient academic qualification can be admitted into the programme subject to any other requirement specified by the Faculty/Institute. An applicant from a local public university who is in the final semester of his undergraduate study programme may be considered for provisional admission provided his current CGPA or its equivalent satisfies the graduate programme admission requirements. English Language Requirements: International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) Band 6.0; Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL), Paper Based - 550; 400 for Band 4.0 only for Malay language, Arabic, Chinese Literature, internet-based test (IBT)- 79-80.

For international students

Bachelor’s degree recognized by UPM in forestry or related fields with a minimum CGPA 2.75 or equivalent; or

CGPA 2.50 to 2.74 may be considered provided candidate has at least 3 years of working experience.

For applicants with one of the following

550 for the TOEFL Paper-based Test (Academic Version); or

Band 6.0 for IELTS (Academic Training); or

79-80 for TOEFL Internet-based Test (Academic Version); or

Level 109 for CIEP at ELS Language Centre; or

Any English Language Test which is equivalent to B2 in Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
