Programme Aims: To prepare candidates with intellectual background and research skills in order that their research discoveries and insights are valuable towards the advancement of knowledge and development of new ideas, theories and insights in the area of Arts and Social Science.

Provide advanced instructions in the Arts and Social Science by teaching analytical thinking, language and skills associated with the discipline.

Provide opportunities for students to engage in scholarly research and thereby make fundamental contributions to the Arts and Social Science.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Students must have: (a) A Master's Degree from UTAR and shows evidence of adequate related research or work experience to satisfaction of Senate; or (b) A Master's Degree of another university or equivalent qualification from an institution as approved by Senate and shows evidence of adequate related research or work experience to satisfaction of Senate; or (c) a Bachelor’s degree from UTAR with First Class Honours or with a minimum CGPA of 3.67 and show evidence of related research aptitude to the satisfaction of the Senate; or (d) a Bachelor’s degree of another university or equivalent qualification from an institution with First Class Honours or with a minimum CGPA of 3.67 as approved by the Senate and shows evidence of related research aptitude to the satisfaction of the Senate; or (e) Any other qualifications equivalent to (a), (b), (c) or (d) from as approved by the Senate. English Language Requirements: a minimum overall score of 410 - 413 in TOEFL (paper-based) or 34 in TOEFL (internet-based testing); a minimum overall band score of 5.0 in IELTS Academic / a minimum of B1 level in Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR); a minimum overall score of 160 in Cambridge English Advance (CAE) / a minimum of B2 level in CEFR; a minimum overall score of 180 in Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE) / a minimum of C1 level in CEFR; a minimum overall score of 36 in Pearson Test of English (PTE); a minimum overall band score of 3 in MUET.

For international students

Students must have master’s degree from a recognized university and show evidence of adequate related research or work experience.

They also must have the following minimum score are as follows:

Cambridge English: Advance (CAE) – 154

Pearson Test of English (PTE) – 47

Malaysia University English Test (MUET): Band 3
