What will I learn?

The School of Sports Studies at the Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Groningen, offers a three year bachelor's programme, made up of 180 ECTS. This international programme creates innovative (sports)professionals. As a change agent you are able to make a difference at both the individual and societal level. The power of sports lays within the three core values of sports an physical activity:

- sports and physical activity is essential for a healthy lifestyle,

- sports creates business value,

- sports is the social power of communities and nations.

The programme is characterised by its professional focus. Each year you will gain real-life work experience by working in the field. Most modules centre around a practical assignment in a professional organisation. The other courses are designed to prepare you for this challenge.

The first year is the so-called propaedeutic phase (60 ECTS). In this phase you will develop professional competences by working on several projects for individuals, businesses or organisations. Supported by your teachers and fellow students, you will start developing a sense of responsibility from the first day. Sharing knowledge and experiences plays a major role.

The second year focuses on creating and managing change during a work placement. Your role is primarily tot be a change agent. To be able to do so, you take courses on subjects like practical research, sport development, management and organisation, organisational policy and consultancy.

In the last year you will work at a professional organisation for your graduation project. During the first phase of the project you will evaluate the organisation. This will result in your research thesis. Based on this thesis you will develop and implement services, products and innovations for the organisation according to the three core values of sports.
