Why study Biology?

What will you learn?

Biology is an English-taught Bachelor's programme. In three years you will discover biology from every angle in an international classroom. The Bachelor’s programme is focused on how you can put your knowledge into practice and gives you lots of personal attention.

After the broad basis in the first 1.5 years, you can design your own profile. You can choose courses from seven learning trajectories within biology and medical biology.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

International educational qualifications: If you have completed, or are about to complete a study programme abroad, then your diploma will be assessed on an individual basis in order to determine whether your previous education allows for admission. Should your diploma allow for admission, then you could be directly admissible or additional conditions may apply (such as language requirements). You will receive more information on these additional requirements during your application procedure. English Language Requirements: As the language of instruction in our programme is English, you will need sufficient proficiency in English. This requirement is fulfilled when you obtain: a Dutch vwo-diploma; an International Baccalaureate diploma; a European Baccalaureate diploma, with at least the course English Language 2 or Language 1; a diploma equivalent to or higher than the Dutch VWO level by completing an English-taught educational programme at an institution in one of the member states of the EU/EEA, Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the United States; If you don't meet the above mentioned language conditions, you must satisfy one of the following minimum requirements: a TOEFL iBT total score of 80, all four sub-scores 20; an IELTS Academic overall score of 6.0, all four sub-scores 6.0; Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) or Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE), or Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 proficiency with a mark of C or higher.

For international students

If you have a non-Dutch Secondary School degree, your previous education will be assessed by the Admissions Officer of the Faculty of Science to determine whether it is of sufficient level. If the level is sufficient, then you could be directly admissible or additional conditions may apply (e.g. taking an English or Biology, Mathematics, Chemistry or Physics test).

If you have or will get one of the diplomas mentioned below, you do not have to take a language test. International Baccalaureate (Diploma Programme in the English language) European Baccalaureate (including English Language 2 or 1) GCE A-levels from AQA, Edexcel, OCR, WJEC or CCEA obtained in the UK or outside theUK American High School Diploma obtained in the US or outside the US A diploma obtained after completing an English-taught programme in one of the member states of the EU/EEA, Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the United States

IELTS Academic: overall score at least 6.5, sub-scores at least 6.0, TOEFL iBT: total score at least 90, sub-scores at least 20, Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE): minimum mark C, Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): minimum mark C
