What will I learn?

If you are wanting to study business and gain a degree this is the right course for you. This degree offers papers in a variety of areas allowing you to experience all aspects of the business world.

You will learn how to:

  • Have a sound understanding of the dynamic and changing environment in which managers operate in New Zealand and internationally. This knowledge and expertise will be underpinned by a breadth of business expertise which includes an historical perspective of business development within New Zealand and an understanding of multicultural influences on business operation.
  • Understand and have the skills to implement sustainable focused business practices.
  • Integrate into the workplace environment quickly, having already spent time through the course of study in a work context applying the knowledge and skills of the curriculum.

Students may choose to complete either a single or double major from the areas of:

The Bachelor of Applied Management may be completed in three years full time study or up to ten years part time. If you have already completed the NZ Diploma in Business, please contact the Commerce and Computing team to discuss what papers may be credited to your degree programme of study.

75 elective credits of this programme are a principal feature of its design. They allow students to complement the core papers specific to the degree, and compulsory papers in a major, with papers of their choice thus allowing them to further enhance their future career or personal goals. Elective papers may be chosen from any papers at levels 5, 6 or 7 and relevant pre-requisite papers must be completed prior.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

University Entrance - NCEA Level 3 or Obtained the New Zealand Diploma in Engineering (NZDE) with a 60% or better overall grade average; or completed equivalent academic qualifications which may include University Bursary with 45% or more in both Physics and Calculus or Algebra; equivalent Cambridge score, equivalent International Baccalaureate.

For international students

  • New Zealand University Entrance (for 2020 NCEA learners this will be 12 credits in each of three NZQA approved subjects ); or
  • Equivalent knowledge, skills, work experience or study

Students must also meet the English language proficiency requirements as below:

  • Any applicants whose first language is not English may be required to provide evidence of an overall IELTS (Academic) band score of 6.0 or greater (with no score below 5.5 in speaking, reading, writing and listening) or equivalent.
  • TOEFL (pBT) score of 550 (with an essay score of 5 TWE)
  • TOEFL (iBT) score of 60 (with a writing score of 18)
  • Cambridge English Examinations: B2 First, or B2 First for schools, or C1 Advanced, or C2 Proficiency with a score of 169. No less than 162 in each skill
  • OET: Minimum of Grade C or 200 in all sub-tests
  • PTE (Academic) score of 50 with no band score lower than 42
  • NZCEL Level 4 Academic
  • LanguageCert - C1 Expert IESOL (LRWS) with PASS and no less than Pass in each skill
