Gain a qualification that integrates the knowledge and skills necessary for practice as a paramedic, while already working or volunteering in ambulance services and holding an Authority to Practice at EMT or above. Youll learn through online teaching and block courses, including simulation, and you will apply and advance your practice in your current workplace. Study part-time and have up to six years to complete the degree.
The Flexible Learning Strand (FLS)/Distance is designed for those already working or volunteering in ambulance services at a minimum of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) level. The FLS provides the opportunity to study part-time with up to six years to complete the degree. The programme is delivered using a blended education model that integrates online learning, block courses on campus, theory classes, simulation, and self-directed learning.
The Bachelor of Health Science (Paramedic) programme at Whitireia New Zealand (Whitireia) is run in conjunction with Wellington Free Ambulance (WFA). Graduates will have the knowledge and skills for practice as contemporary ambulance paramedics.
The Bachelor of Health Science (Paramedic) is approved by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority accredited by the Council of Ambulance Authorities.
Students applying for FLS need to go through a credit recognition process to determine their point of entry into the programme.
