What will I learn?

This programme prepares you to work in a range of entry-level support roles in an organisation, which may include employment in roles such as computer technician, service desk or technical support, or provide a pathway to further IT related study.

Graduates will have an awareness of the IT environment, appreciate the needs of users, and be able to provide IT technical support. They will also be able to operate within the applicable professional standards and practice, as part of a team, or independently with a broad level of supervision.

The NZ Diploma in Information Technology Technical Support (level 5) is a 120 credit programme, consisting of eight x 15 credit courses. A full time student is expected to complete the programme in up to 1 year (36 weeks excluding study breaks).

The Programme Structure and Learning Process

Each of our programmes is made up of a number of courses. The majority of courses are offered over a nine-week quarter requiring a total of approximately 16.5 hours per week, per course. In each course, there are modules containing learning activities, resources, and assessments. These learning activities and experiences may include:

  • Tutor-led learning sessions
  • Tutor-led group-based workshops
  • Group-based assessment projects
  • Industry speakers and visits
  • Supervised labs
  • A range of online learning activities including quizzes and videos
  • Industry project placement (Level 7 degree programme)

Admission Requirements: NCEA University Entrance or equivalent CIE/IB award. Note that discretionary entrance is available to students who have gained exceptional marks in level 2 NCEA. Some of the above academic requirements may be waived for students over 20 years of age. IELTS test: Academic score of 6 with no band score lower than 5.5.
