What will I learn?

The Master of Music allows students to take composition or performance studies to a more advanced technical level and to gain breadth and depth of appreciation in their specialist field. It is an ideal pathway for those interested in undertaking a completely research-based degree.

The Master of Music may be awarded with Distinction or Merit.

How do I plan my degree?

The Master of Music consists of one of the following:

  • MUSI 693 MMus Composition or
  • MUSI 692 MMus Performance.

Further study

UC offers a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Music, and a Doctor of Musical Arts.

Entry requirements

For students from New Zealand

Every student enrolling in the Master of Financial Engineering should have: qualified for a university degree with a B+ Grade Point Average in 300-level courses; and completed specified 200-level MATH and STAT courses (or equivalent courses); and been approved by the Academic Dean of Science. Students who have minimal statistics and finance backgrounds may be required to take FIEC 601 Quantitative Finance and Economics in January–February before enrolling.

For international students

Students must have completed the equivalent of a Bachelor of Music with Honours with at least a B Grade Point Average, and been approved by the Dean of Arts (Academic). Students intending to enrol should choose courses carefully to ensure prerequisites have been met.

Evidence of musical ability is required for entry.

Applicants must also satisfy our English language entry requirements

  • IELTS (Academic): Minimum overall score of 6.5, with a minimum of 6.0 in reading, writing, listening and speaking.
  • TOEFL (IBT): Minimum overall score of 90, with a minimum score of 19 in Reading, Listening and Writing.
  • PTE (Pearson Test of English - Academic): Overall score of 58 and no communicative skills score below 50.

Note: Entry to the performance option is limited and applications for auditions are required. Applications close on 15 September of the preceding year. Subject to approval by the Programme Coordinator.
