What will I learn?

If you have experience in a health or wellbeing setting and are looking to gain additional knowledge and skills, study UCOL's New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Advanced Support).

You'll learn how to provide advanced person-centred support to a person with complex needs, and to take a leadership role in the workplace.

There are 200 work experience hours for this programme.

Course Information

This programme consist of 70 credits. The courses includes:

  • Advancing Clinical Collaborative Patient Management (20 Credits) (70 work experience hours)
  • Advancing Self-Management (30 Credits) (80 work experience hours)
  • Leadership (20 Credits) (50 work experience hours)

Career & Study Outcomes

Successful graduates of UCOL's New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Advanced Support) will be capable of working under broad guidance and may have some responsibility for the performance of others. Job opportunities may include:

  • Health care assistant
  • Senior caregiver
  • Senior health care assistant
  • Senior support worker in hospices or specialised dementia units
  • Aged residential care or home and community support settings.

This qualification builds on the New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 3) in Health Assistance or Support Work strands, and may lead to further study in related health and wellbeing settings, or in leadership and management.

Entry requirements

For international students

New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 3) in Health Assistance or Support Work strand or An equivalent qualification or experience in the health and wellbeing sector.

Acceptance into the programme is conditional on a student authorising UCOL to obtain a background check from the New Zealand Police Licensing and Vetting Agency. Convictions of any offence may not necessarily exclude applicants from enrolment; the decision is at the discretion of the Programme Leader.

English language Requirement: IELTS - General or Academic: Score of 5.5 with no band lower than 5; TOEFL (iBT) - Score of 46 (with a writing score of 14); Cambridge English Qualifications - B2 with score of 162; no less than 154 in each skill; OET - Minimum Grade C or 200 in all subtests; NZCEL - Level 3 (Applied); and Pearson Test of English (Academic) - Score of 42 with no band less than 36.

Under 20 years of age

For international applicants under 20 years of age who do not hold NCEA, International Academic Qualifications Entry Criteria apply (Entry requirements vary from country to country).
