What will I learn?

This programme is designed to prepare you for higher level study. Teaching you techniques to sharpen your written and oral communication as well as study skills and numeracy.

You will learn how to:

  • Locate, select and analyse relevant information from a variety of sources and apply to context-relevant tasks and problems
  • Work independently and collaboratively on context-relevant academic tasks and problems
  • Construct a reasoned and researched argument, communicated using a range of appropriate media
  • Develop and critique a study and career plan that identifies specific long-term career goals.

Further Study Options

Holders of this qualification will be able to progress to further study or training at WITT, at NZQF Level 5 and above (diploma or degree) related to the context of their programme.

Career Options

Depending on the courses chosen, students may be able to seek entry level employment in a variety of areas.

Entry requirements

For international students

Open Entry

Students must also meet the English language proficiency requirements as below:

  • IELTS 5.5 (general or academic) with no band score lower than 5
  • TOEFL (pBT) score of 530 (with an essay score of 4.5 TWE)
  • TOEFL (iBT) score of 46 (with a writing score of 14)
  • Cambridge English Examinations: B2 First or B2 First for schools with a score of 162. No less than 154 in each skill
  • OET: Minimum of Grade C or 200 in all sub-tests
  • PTE (Academic) score of 42 with no band score lower than 36
  • NZCEL Level 3 with an endorsement of Applied
  • LanguageCert - B2 Communicator IESOL (LRWS) with PASS and no less than Pass in each skill

*There may be different IELTS requirements depending on your chosen course.
