What will I learn?

IT qualifications are high in demand, not just locally but world-wide. Technology is growing faster than ever and so is the need for qualified students in the IT industry.

You will learn how to:

  • Select, install and configure IT hardware and systems software to meet organisational requirements
  • Apply a broad operational knowledge of networking, and associated services and technologies to meet typical organisational requirements
  • Apply the fundamentals of information systems concepts and practice to support and enhance organisational processes and systems
  • Apply professional, legal, and ethical principles and practices in a socially responsible manner as an emerging IT professional
  • Identify common issues related to IT security and apply a range of solutions

Career Options

Graduates of this diploma will have the skills and knowledge to gain employment in roles such as computer technician, support officer, network administrator, network engineer, applications support analyst, and other entry level technical roles.

Further Study Options

The qualification provides a pathway to a specialist Networking or Administration qualification. This may include:

  • New Zealand Diploma in Systems Administration (Level 6)
  • New Zealand Diploma in Networking (Level 6)
  • New Zealand Diploma in Database Administration (Level 6)

Other possible pathways include under-graduate degree qualifications. This qualification may also equip learners to attempt optional industry certifications at the appropriate level and area of specialty.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

NCEA Level 2 or equivalent qualification; or Equivalent knowledge, life skills, work experience or study. Students must also meet the English language proficiency requirements as below: General or Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5. TOEFL (pBT) Score of 550 (with an essay score of 5 TWE), TOEFL (iBT) Score of 46 (with a writing score of 14), Cambridge English Examinations - B2 First or B2 First for schools with a score of 162. No less than 154 in each skill, OET: Minimum of Grade C or 200 in all sub-tests, PTE (Academic) score of 42 with no band score lower than 36, LanguageCert - B2 Communicator IESOL (LRWS) with HIGH PASS and no less than Pass in each skill.

For international students

  • New Zealand Certificate in Information Technology Essentials (Level 4) or equivalent qualification
  • Equivalent knowledge, life skills, work experience or study

Students must also meet the English language proficiency requirements as below:

  • IELTS 5.5 (academic) overall with no band score lower than 5
  • TOEFL (pBT) score of 550 (with an essay score of 5 TWE)
  • TOEFL (iBT) score of 46 (with a writing score of 14)
  • Cambridge English Examinations: B2 First or B2 First for schools with a score of 162. No less than 154 in each skill
  • OET: Minimum of Grade C or 200 in all sub-tests
