What will I learn?

The intersection between Law and Life Sciences is an expansive one, cutting across many critical and controversial areas including biotechnology, bioethics, environmental regulation, forensic science, and the protection of intellectual property. The Double Degree Programmes (DDP) in Law and Life Sciences leverage on the strength of Faculty of Law in the legal dimensions of these issues and depth of technical expertise of NUS Life Sciences, co-hosted by Faculty of Science and Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, in these areas. It will enable students to discover the broad connections between law and life sciences and acquire a broad expertise to occupy the niche position linking up both disciplines.

Programme Structure

The Double-Honours Degree Programme (DDP) requires students to complete the following:

(i) Bachelor of Laws (Honours) (120 MC) – A Law student pursuing the 4-year LL.B. degree normally takes at least 160 MC of Law modules, including 88 MC of the Compulsory Core Law Curriculum. Under this DDP, 40 MC (25% of the MC required for the LL.B.) would be waived.

(ii) Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Life Sciences (120 MC) – A Science student pursuing the 4-year B.Sc. (Hons.) degree normally takes 160 MC of modules to fulfill the University Level Requirements, Faculty and Major Requirements, and Unrestricted Electives. Under this DDP, 40 MC (25% of the MC required for the B.Sc. (Hons.)) would be waived.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants should have completed a high school. English Language Requirements: EL1119 minimum acceptable score C6; IELTS - 6.5 overall with 6.5 in Reading and Writing components; MUET-200; TOEFL - 580 for paper-based / 92-93 for internet-based.

For international students

There is a dual-entry system for the Double Degree Programme:

(1) Admissions with competitive GCE 'A' or H2 Level or equivalent qualifications:

Prospective applicants will participate in NUS Undergraduate Admission Exercise by applying online through the Office of Admissions. To be short-listed, students applying with GCE 'A' or H2 Level or equivalent qualifications must have an outstanding academic record and will be required to satisfy the admissions criteria of both the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Science.

English Language Requirement: Applicants may present any of the following to fulfill the English Language requirement: IELTS - 6.5 overall with 6.5 in Reading and Writing components; MUET – 200; TOEFL - 580 for paper-based / 92-93 for internet-based; EL1119 - C6.
