What will I learn?

The programme aims to enable you to develop the knowledge, skills and capability to your organisations effectively at a time of rapid change.

The Master of Arts (Educational Management) programme is designed for individuals who hold management positions in the education service: principals, vice-principals, heads of department and teachers with positions of responsibility and MOE officers.

This programme pursues three broad aims: (i) to enable aspiring leaders in education to become more informed about critical issues in educational management, and thus to apply intellectual approaches to their work (ii) to help them cope positively and effectively with the management challenges that are currently impacting on education (iii) to enable them to acquire a recognised and valued postgraduate award. Topics covered include: organisational learning and development, human development and learning, assessment quality and standards, supervisory leadership and curriculum design, management of educational technology applications, finance and resource management, quantitative and qualitative research methods, comparative issues in education, contemporary issues in school marketing, mentoring for professional development and leadership succession, school and organisational effectiveness, globalisation, educational change and pedagogical reform.

STRUCTURE

There are two options within this programme. You are required to either:

  • Complete 6 courses plus a dissertation (Dissertation option), or
  • Complete 7 courses plus MEM932 Critical Inquiry (2 AU)

Entry requirements

For students from United States

An applicant must have completed at least a Bachelor Degree (Honors) or European/German FH Diploma or its equivalent in areas of Science/Electrical/Electronics Engineering from a university with recognized standing with at least a 2nd Class Honors or equivalent. As the Programme instruction medium is English, applicant must be able to demonstrate a satisfactory level of the language. Applicant whose native tongue or medium of instruction from previous studies (Bachelor / FH Diploma) is not English must submit at least one of the following: TOEFL score indicating a minimum of 600 for Paper based test or 100 for internet based test; IELTS: With academic IELTS result of at least 6.5.

For international students

A good Bachelor's degree

At least two years of managerial experience in either the public or private sector. You should be heads of school departments, vice-principals or principals of schools, inspectors and senior officers of MOE, faculty members of universities and polytechnics or supervisors and managers in the public or private sectors

TOEFL: Minimum score of 580 (for paper and pencil examination) or 92 (for internet-based); IELTS: Minimum score of 6.5
