The School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science conducts research on basic and applied level and solves real problems and challenges in society. Our research is performed with scientific excellence and in partnership with society.

The School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science conduct research that is world-leading within our field. Our research contributes to future solutions in theoretical computer science, applied computer science, robotics, medical science, Nanoelectronics, smart grids, intelligent transport systems, secure infrastructure, computer systems, photonics, computational biology, media technology and interaction design, as well as speech and musical communication.

KTH’s research within electrical engineering and computer science is internationally prominent and reaches high rankings within its field. It is the combination of different approaches and methods, as well as a thorough knowledge of the core subject that makes it possible for us to lead the way in our field.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants must have a degree at the advanced level (master's/second cycle), or fulfilled course requirements corresponding to at least 240 credits, of which a minimum of 60 credits are at the advanced level (master's/second cycle) or otherwise acquired largely equivalent knowledge. Other English Language Requirements: TOEFL (Paper-based) For English 6: Score of 4.5 (scale 1–6) in written test and a total score of 575.

For international students

The general entry requirements are met by those who have:

  • a degree at the advanced level (master's/second cycle), or
  • fulfilled course requirements corresponding to at least 240 credits, of which a minimum of 60 credits are at the advanced level (master's/second cycle) or
  • otherwise acquired largely equivalent knowledge

Special entry requirements

The special requirements may relate to:

  • knowledge from higher education or equivalent studies
  • special professional or vocational experience
  • necessary language skills or other conditions determined by the programme, subject or project.

Language requirements

Students should have the necessary skills in English to enable them to follow courses, cope with compulsory literature, manage everyday communication within the working environment and defend a thesis in English. Requirements regarding skills in the Swedish language may also be imposed.
