What will I learn?

The MSc International Hospitality and Events programme will provide students with an opportunity to develop their management knowledge and skills while strengthening their critical awareness of the current socio-economic, marketing and political challenges currently affecting the profession. Students will gain industry insights and networking opportunities that will enhance their career – expanding their knowledge around management issues facing hospitality and events in specialized international contexts.

The course is designed for current professionals and those seeking careers in the hospitality and events sectors. Most graduates will likely hold an undergraduate degree in the area of hospitality, tourism, business and other social sciences and are looking to acquire specialist knowledge and skills in hospitality and events management.

Programme Content

The programme can be studied full time (over one year) or part-time (over two years). The university academic calendar consists of two (2) terms a year. New students are admitted to the programme in the autumn term which starts in September each year.

A wide range of teaching and learning approaches are used to build up your skills and knowledge – mainly through lectures, seminars and practical activities. Teaching and learning will also be informed by lecturers’ current research and industry engagement.

You will take part in case study based discussions, field trips and in-class activities. You will supplement all of this with your own guided and independent reading and research. The mix of delivery modes will be varied and suitable to the content being delivered.

Future Careers and Employability

An MSc in International Hospitality and Events Management will enable you to develop the professional and communication skills and subject expertise necessary to take your career to the next level. Graduates can embark on roles within; hotels and resorts, event management companies, conference management, exhibition organisers, performing arts companies, public relations and entertainment venues and attractions. For those who have taken a career break to study, this programme will enhance opportunities for career progression. The Careers and Employability Service offer postgraduate students support in planning their career.

Entry requirements

For international students

Applicants should normally have:

  • A good honours degree in business, management, hospitality, events, tourism, geography and other social sciences awarded by a UK university, or
  • An equivalent qualification accepted by the University, or
  • A professional qualification deemed to be of an equivalent standard.
  • Applicants with a degree in a different field may be considered, provided that they can demonstrate extensive professional experience in the area of travel and tourism, hospitality, attractions or events management.
