What will I learn?

The Accounting and Finance (with a foundation year) will help you develop practical accounting skills for business-related and management positions. With the BA (Hons) accredited by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), the Chartered Institute of Public Finance & Accountancy (CIPFA) and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), this course is highly regarded. We offer an integrated Masters route for this course for those who wish to complete an advanced course of study in this field, or alternatively a Foundation Year is available for applicants that do not meet the entry requirements. As well as becoming familiar with accounting software, you’ll learn how to communicate with specialist and non-specialist audiences effectively. You’ll study management accounting, gaining experience in producing financial reports and interpreting data. You’ll learn about personal and business taxation, and get to grips with modern accounting software. We encourage students to undertake a work placement year to develop employability skills, gain invaluable practical experience and position you favourably for graduate roles. Our close links with many high-profile businesses mean we can help you secure your work placement. In your final year, you’ll cover problem solving and analysis in complex business contexts. You’ll also acquire research and data analysis skills in preparation for a financial research project, possessing the confidence to demonstrate your newly acquired skills in the workplace and make important business decisions. Foundation Year students will be eased into degree-level learning. The year allows you to enter directly onto the full degree course even if you don’t have the relevant entry qualifications. We’ll help you develop practical accounting and business skills so that you will be well prepared for work in a range of sectors including accountancy, financial services, banking, taxation, insurance and the public sector. You will be taught through a combination of lectures, seminars, workshops and laboratory practicals. Seminars enable you to discuss and develop your understanding of topics covered in lectures in smaller groups of around 16-18 students. In addition, you will have timetabled meetings with your personal tutor at least twice a year. You will be taught in first-class learning spaces throughout your course. Many of our courses are accredited or recognised by professional, statutory or regulatory bodies.
