What will I learn?

**Sound is everywhere: speech, music, noise. Acoustics is about exploring the physics of these sounds and the psychology of how people react when hearing them. Acoustical engineering has endless applications, from designing loudspeakers in smart phones to creating classrooms where noise doesn’t interrupt learning. Where there is sound, there is potential to improve it through Acoustical Engineering.**Salford has pioneered acoustics teaching and research for over 60 years. Our acoustical and audio engineering degree course will guide you through the creative science and engineering involved in shaping and managing sound, whether creating sound technology for games or designing warning sound systems for electronic cars.Based in our Peel Park campus, minutes from central Manchester, you’ll use specialist acoustic laboratories like our anechoic chambers and learn from lecturers who carry out world-leading acoustics research, including R&D for the acoustic and audio industry.Initially, you’ll gain an understanding of the mathematics and physics of acoustics, exploring audio systems, analogue electronics, digital signal processing and architectural acoustics. As you progress, you’ll shape your degree around your interests, choosing optional modules in areas such as speech, environmental noise and sound perception.With the professional experience pathway, you will complete an industrial placement year between years two and three. Placements are an excellent opportunity to expand your CV, apply your academic knowledge further and develop interpersonal skills in the real world. On completion, you will be able to add 'with Professional Experience' to your degree title.Our graduates have great prospects for a career in the acoustic and audio industries. Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants will need: a combined score of SAT I of at least 1260 with an individual minimum score in mathematics of 570 /800 and an individual minimum score of 610/800 in the evidence-based reading and writing section; or ACT with a score of at least 26; or grade 3, 3, 4 in three Advanced Placement Tests (APs) in specified subjects; or SAT II in three specified subjects at 575 or better (we will accept tests interchangeably as long as in total three subject areas are covered). We require IELTS 6.0 (with a minimum 5.5 in each component) or equivalent.
