Business Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

What will I learn?

The Leeds Business School PhD programme has, over the last several years, established a strong track record of producing rigorous, innovative and globally relevant research. We are open to UK and international applications for the full-time programme (three years plus write up) and the part-time programme (five years plus write up). We also value the insight that active business professionals bring to the research degree programme, and would normally encourage students who work to study part-time to ensure that they can devote enough space to both work and research.

In addition to sponsored and self-funded PhDs we have some themed bursary PhDs.

Entry requirements

For international students

You need a good first degree for PhD entry and relevant professional experience for studying for a professional doctorate. A good first degree is an honours degree with a minimum 2:1 classification. You need an overall IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score of 7 with no individual sub-score below 6.5. We will also consider TOEFL, iBT or Parsons PTE as equivalent qualifications, but no other qualifications will be accepted. If you have successfully completed a UK Bachelors degree (with a minimum classification of 2:1), or a UK masters degree in the last two years, this will satisfy our English language requirements. However, if you completed a UK degree more than two years ago, you should take a new IELTS test and submit this result.

*There may be different IELTS requirements depending on your chosen course.
