What will I learn?

The 2 Year Foundation Degree in Computer Science is directly linked to and validated by the University of Chester allowing you direct access to the final year of the Applied Computing (BSc Hons) Degree at the University of Chester.This Computer Science foundation degree is taught at our multi-million pound Twelve Quays campus in Birkenhead.Studying Computer Science will give you the opportunity to gain practical computing skills vital in the creation of computer systems across the digital sector. The foundation of computer science will allow you to study a broad range of topics in designing and developing digital solutions for the challenges faced by businesses in the increasingly computer dominated world.The course has strong links with surrounding industry, has input from professionals and Chester University and aims to ensure you have the most up to date skill set. At the end of the course you will have the knowledge and skills to work in a wide range of exciting roles.The course is based in the purpose built labs of the STEM Centre in the Twelve Quays Campus. In addition, you will have access to facilities including library facilities available at Chester University's Thornton Science Park.Students will have access to all the hardware and software required to complete the course, students will also have access to free software that will be available to install on their own devices should they wish. Although students will have access to their coursework through the College network from home, it is recommended that they make use of their own external storage such as a pen drive or external hard drive and have their own headphones or earphones.Any other equipment needs can be discussed at interview.You will have a direct access opportunity to progress on to the third year of the following Honours Degree programmes: BSc Applied Computing at the University of Chester. You may have the opportunity to apply to progress on to the second or final year of an Honours Degree in a related area at any university. You can also progress into employment in the Computing or IT industry and pursue careers such as IT Support/Technician, Database Administrator, Trainee Programmer, Systems Analyst or Web Designer.
