What will I learn?

In this course, you will learn about topics such as hazards, vulnerability and the risk of disaster, crisis management and humanitarian responses, all underpinned by the practical aspects of an emergency situation, including planning and logistics. Learn new skills including disaster risk reduction techniques, and mapping using GIS, GPS and remote sensing technologies. On completion, careers and employability service can help you find a job that puts your skills to work in the field of crisis and disaster management, or elsewhere. Opportunities exist within sectors including: Humanitarian agencies and NGOs, Emergency management, Emergency logistics and contingency planning, Flood management, Military-civilian emergency liaisons, (Re)insurance and risk management, Utility companies, Civil defence, Disaster relief and Epidemiology. The MSc Crisis and Disaster Management degree course also features research and analytical components, ideal if you are interested in pursuing further research at PhD level.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

For entry to our postgraduate Master's programmes, you'll usually need to have a Bachelor's degree with a GPA of 2.6 /4 or above from a recognised Higher Education institution. Students need a minimum of IELTS band 6.5–7.0, with no component below 6.0.

For international students

A 2:2 honours degree or equivalent, preferably with some relevant work experience in the emergency services or humanitarian sectors. Applicants with relevant professional experience and/or qualifications will also be considered. English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 with no component score below 6.0.
