What will I learn?

The MSc Drilling and Well Engineering degree is aimed at graduates who have a relevant academic background, as well as industry practitioners who possess appropriate industry experience. The course focuses on the effective well construction, and aims to develop high levels of professional skills in the key areas of well design, drilling and operations management.

You will benefit from the academics teaching this course, who have a wealth of industry experience, which you will learn from whether you choose to study on-campus or online.

The course benefits from several industrial visits and state-of-the-art drilling simulators. Typical students on this course include recently qualified graduates and those working in areas such as oil and gas, energy, national oil companies, engineering firms and project service companies.

Accreditation

This course is accredited by the Energy Institute on behalf of the Engineering Council and meets the requirements for Further Learning for registration as a Chartered Engineer. Candidates must hold a CEng accredited BEng/BSc (Hons) undergraduate first degree to comply with full CEng registration requirements.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Students need to have a Bachelors Degree with a 2.7 GPA on a 4 point scale, First Professional Degree with a GPA of 2.7 on a 4 point scale. Applicants with lower qualification and / or relevant work experience will be considered on a case by case basis. Students who do not meet our direct entry requirements may be able to undertake a pre-masters programme through our International College at Robert Gordon University. Students need to have an IELTS overall of 6.5 includes 5.5 in Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening.

For international students

Applicants normally hold a 2:2 undergraduate honours degree or its equivalent in Engineering or a relevant discipline such as Geology, Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics. Applicants with a lower degree classification and / or relevant work experience will be considered on a case by case basis. Applicants whose first language is not English should have an IELTS of 6.5 overall, with no component lower than 5.5, or an equivalent. TOEFL iBT 88.
