What will I learn?

Our English Language programme aims to develop your understanding of the ways in which language works in the world.This programme is available with a Year in China. The Year in China allows undergraduate students the opportunity to spend one year at our joint venture, Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), following XJTLU's BA China Studies degree classes. XJTLU is a fully English-speaking university, located in Suzhou. If you wish to study this programme with a Year in China please put the option code YC in the Further Choices section of your UCAS application form.You will gain insights into the ways in which the language we use in everyday life is shaped by factors such as history, culture and psychology. You will study a range of approaches to the analysis of language with tutors who are active and innovative researchers in the field.In each year of a Major (75%) English programme, you will choose 90 credits from our range of English modules.This programme is available with a Year in Industry. Year Three is spent on a paid placement within an organisation in industry, broadly defined. You will be supported by the School of the Arts and the Department throughout, and your reflexive written account of the experience will contribute towards your final degree result. If you wish to study this programme with a Year in Industry please put the option code YI in the Further Choices section of your UCAS application form.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Biology and a second science, preferably Chemistry, at A level Also accepted as a second science: Environmental Science, Mathematics, Physics, Geography, Psychology, Geology and Applied Science. For applicants from England, where A levels in Biology, Chemistry or Physics have been taken, we will also require a pass in the Practical Endorsement
