The variety of food and drink available to us is continually increasing in its quality, diversity, and interest. This course will help you develop the skills to be at the heart of the food development process adding value to a complex and exciting food industry.
Having completed a relevant Foundation Degree or HND programme, you might wish to top-up to BSc (Hons) degree, by studying full-time for a further academic year to develop subject knowledge and understanding appropriate to your individual interests and developing vocational needs.
How will I be taught?
Top-up programmes are structured around lectures, tutorials and practical classes designed to augment material covered in previous studies and allow students to develop the subject expertise and depth of knowledge required at BSc (Hons) degree level.
Teaching and learning
Top up courses at Harper Adams involve a combination of lectures, tutorials and laboratory sessions as appropriate for the subject area. In addition, the university has extensive links with food related businesses, and external visits and outside speakers are integrated into the programme. As part of the programme students undertake a dissertation in a subject area of their choice.
Assessment methods
Assessment is via a balance of course work and examination. Coursework assessment methods are wide ranging and include quizzes, in class discussion, presentations to industry specialists, tutorials, literature review-based essays, problem-based assignments, sponsored industry projects requiring oral and written reports, individual and team scenario exercises and experimental work. Exams include both closed and open book assessment, with both seen and unseen questions and tasks set.
