What will I learn?

Warwick's MA by Research in German Studies is expertly designed by the School of Modern Languages and Cultures to hone your research skills.

Course Overview

Research and write a 40000-word Dissertation on a topic of your choice under the supervision of one of our internationally-leading experts. Suitable for students who already have considerable research skills and a clear idea of their own particular area of interest for further research.

Before you arrive you will be matched to one or more of our expert supervisors and during the course you will meet with them frequently for guidance on the conceptualization research and writing of your Dissertation. This will include reading and discussion of draft material. You will also be expected to participate in the research culture of the School for example by attending research seminars.

Research Themes

Most areas from the 18th-century Enlightenment to the present day with notable areas of expertise in: German Classicism and Romanticism; Orientalism in German Culture from 1800 to the Present; German Diasporic Cultures and Literatures; Nationalism and Anti-Semitism; Weimar Cultures; Contemporary German History; Post-War German Literature and Culture; German Memory Cultures; Transnationalism transculturalism and world literatures; Critical Theory.

Entry requirements

For international students

Entry requirements 2:i undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in a related subject. IELTS overall score of 7.0 minimum component scores of two at 6.0/6.5 and the rest at 7.0 or above. Students need to have: Overall Score of 100 (Reading 22 Listening 21 Speaking 23 Writing 21);
