What will I learn?

In partnership with our School of Science and Engineering and our School of Business, you will develop skills, knowledge, and understanding of specialised industry focused engineering and fundamental management subjects. On the engineering side you will study a number of subjects, including advanced robotics, where you will look at multi-modal sensor integration and human-robot interactions, and advanced manufacturing, where you will investigate modern and smart manufacturing technologies. On the management side you will study a number of subjects, including project management processes, leadership and decision making, giving you a key understanding of the roles and responsibilities of leadership.

Under the guidance of our academic staff, you will undertake an industrial related project for at least 12 weeks, gaining practical experience and valuable contacts in the industry. Recent project examples have looked at optimisation of material flow and enhancement of overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) in a manufacturing company, and proton therapy. We also have a number of research and teaching collaborations around the world, including a partnership with CERN (large hadron collider) in Geneva, Switzerland, creating opportunities for industrial placements, PhDs and graduate positions.

Due to working closely with industry experts to produce graduates with the skills to meet industry standards and requirements, along with the multidisciplinary nature of the course, you can work in a wide range of positions including:

Entry requirements

For international students

You should have, or expect to have, a first degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Applied Physics or equivalent. You are expected to have achieved a 2:2 honours degree, or an equivalent standard. Relevant work experience is also considered, when a 2:2 degree is not achieved. IELTS Overall 6.0 - Listening 5.5, Reading 5.5, Writing 5.5, Speaking 5.5. The TOEFL score would be Overall:78; writing:23, Listening:19, Reading:18 and Speaking:18.
