What will I learn?

The STEM Foundation Year provides the opportunity to study an integrated 4-year programme where you will complete a Foundation Year before progressing onto a degree in biology, computer science, engineering, or geography and geology, subject to passing all assessments. The STEM Foundation Year provides the opportunity to develop scientific skills and knowledge, tailored to your individual needs, that will enable you to progress onto the first-year of selected science-based degrees at Edge Hill University. The programme equips you with the key transferable skills needed for higher education and future employment. It is suitable if you meet the University’s minimum entry criteria but do not meet the subject-specific requirements for science-based courses or wish to extend your scientific knowledge base prior to joining a relevant degree. You will develop skills in academic writing, critical analysis, systematic thinking and personal reflection, and receive a broad overview of applied mathematics and physics. The programme includes three pathways which enable you to enhance your scientific knowledge in computer programming, biology or geography. The pathway you will study is determined by your intended degree. Unlock the potential of the workplaces of the future. During this degree you’ll broaden your knowledge of business, technology, interpersonal and project management skills to give you a well-rounded understanding of computing and the people that work in tech. This course combines theory and practical exercises to hone your leadership abilities and bring out the best in yourself and your colleagues and peers. We’ll also provide the technical know-how for a future in critical thinking where you’ll examine issues and create imaginative solutions for business challenges. You’ll also get a flavour for accounting and statistics, e-commerce for business and data. Take your place in the digital world and upgrade your understanding of IT management with an optional third year placement. This practical experience and technical expertise mean you’ll be highly-valued by future employers upon graduation and beyond. An accredited degree This course is accredited by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered IT Professional. Successfully completing an accredited honours degree is the first step to full BCS membership and to being awarded chartered status.
