What will I learn?

This one-year (3 term) programme can offer successful students progression to Year 2 of a number of Business; Art and Design; and Engineering degrees at Coventry University. You will study your foundation programme at the ONCAMPUS Centre based at the heart of the Coventry University campus with easy access to The Hub, library and the city centre. The IY1 Programme offers progression to Year 2 of the following undergraduate degrees.

Engineering degrees:

  • BEng/MEng Automotive Engineering
  • BEng/MEng Mechanical Engineering
  • BEng/MEng Motorsport Engineering

Who is this programme designed for?

This programme is designed for international students who do not quite have the academic grades and/or English level to start the first year of an undergraduate degree at Coventry University, but have a stronger profile than an IFP student. If you successfully complete the IY1 you can be offered progression* to Year 2 of a business, Art and Design and Engineering - related undergraduate degree at Coventry University. This programme is set at level 4, and is equivalent to the first year of an undergraduate degree in the UK.

What will I study?

All students study the following academic modules, plus English for Academic Purposes:

  • Engineering Maths: Linear Algebra, Probability and Statistics
  • Engineering Science: Statics and Dynamics and Electrical Principles
  • Material and Manufacturing Technology 1
  • Engineering Maths: Calculus and MATLAB 1
  • Engineering Science: Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer
  • Material and Manufacturing Technology 2
  • Engineering Applications: Workshop Practice incl. Engineering Drawing, workshop skills; CAD
  • Engineering Design: Design Methodology & Marketing with Beam competition
  • Engineering Design: IMech challenge - Design challenge

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed by a variety of methods during your time with us: the intention is that you have a chance to experience the full range of assessment methods that you might experience at university when you start the second year of your chosen degree.

Assessments will normally include coursework, essays, reports and other structured assignments, oral examination, and unseen written examinations.

Assessment for Art and Design academic modules are 100% coursework based.

To study this programme, you will need to have completed high school with an A level equivalent including Maths and Physics grades at least D/50% OR have an Engineering foundation equivalent with 50% pass in Maths and Physics. English requirements: From 5.5 IELTS or equivalent (no component below 5.0) for 3 terms From 5.0 IELTS or equivalent (no component below 4.5) for 4 terms
