What will I learn?

Journalism has entered a new digital age but at its core remains the craft of investigating and reporting events and issues. This course provides a fusion of traditional practice and new, emerging methods that are shaping the future of journalism.Taught by professional journalists, you will be encouraged to experiment across a range of platforms in order to deliver cutting edge and dynamic news content.This practice led course will also afford you the opportunity to regularly work with the latest new media technologies specified by industry, in a brand new state-of-the-art newsroom at the centre of MediaCityUK.You will learn how to investigate, record, write, edit, present and produce news for online, print, radio and television, with the option to specialise in your preferred area in the final year. You will also be encouraged to work on the student-led broadcast, Quays News, which is supported by industry and guest editors from the BBC and ITV.We aim to produce graduates capable of hitting the ground running as competent journalists, with professional multimedia skills. Graduates have secured journalism jobs at the BBC, ITV, a range of newspapers and online sites as well as finding work in related areas such as public relations.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants will need: a combined score of SAT I of at least 1260 with an individual minimum score in mathematics of 570 /800 and an individual minimum score of 610/800 in the evidence-based reading and writing section; or ACT with a score of at least 26; or grade 3, 3, 4 in three Advanced Placement Tests (APs) in specified subjects; or SAT II in three specified subjects at 575 or better (we will accept tests interchangeably as long as in total three subject areas are covered). We require IELTS 6.0 (with a minimum 5.5 in each component) or equivalent.
